History of BioJava
From Biojava
BioJava was born as a sister project of Bioperl in MRC Cambridge, 1995. When Java language was becoming popular, a few bioperl people started BioJava project in 1995. And at the same time, they started coining various Bio[.+] projects terms and hoped and predicted that they will become widely used in the future. Apart from participating in OMG(object managemen group, Astrid Reinhardt and Jong Bhak) meeting in London and introducing the idea of biojava for biology, there was not much progress afterwards. This was because learning Java and porting/creating Java lib/modules did not progress fast. However, when Mathew Pocock came to join Tim Hubbard's group at MRC and Sanger centre, BioJava effectively started as a practical coding project.http://biocc.kobic.re.kr/Biojava/BioJava_the_first_advert.htm: BioJava the first advert
